Praying

Why is prayer a basic function, priority, care and concern of projekt Zet?

The emphasis on prayer is based on the fact that “our” ministry is ultimately God’s work, not ours alone. Spiritual fruit is possible only when God is active (John 15:5, Psalm 127:1). The fact that the Czech Republic is one of the most atheistic countries in the world, with a mere one-fifth of one percent of its inhabitants being members of evangelical churches, makes us recognize our dependence on God all the more. Discipling a nation is spiritual work, not a merely human endeavor. We remind ourselves of these truths in prayer.

While prayer is technically only one of projekt Zet’s five ministry foci, the reality is that prayer is the ultimate end point to all other foci. Research is to help the church see the need to pray for and plant thousands of new churches. Envisioning is done to help believers see the spiritual need in this country and begin praying for God to be more glorified through the establishment of many more small groups and churches. Our mentoring relationships are based on prayer. Resources developed have a very intentional focus on prayer.

Vision and strategy, research and statistics, resources and activities are powerless, apart from dependence and trust in God. It is easy for we action-oriented, strategic-minded types to act as though all we need is God’s blessing. We realize this can be a form of independence rather than absolute trust in God. So, we pray; we submit our plans and programs to Him. We know He can use them or change them, even discard them. And we encourage the church to pray toward the end goal of a nation saturated with healthy small groups and churches.

Discipleship Essentials is a discipleship workbook for use in triads, small groups or one-on-one. The balance of this relational and rational approach to discipleship is a welcome addition to the Czech mentors toolbox.
